Sketchbook365 Sketch Challenge

This is my layout for the brand new Sketchbook365 sketch challenge blog, hosted by Scrap365 magazine.

This is the sketch, which is from a layout by the very lovely Morag Cutts. My layout is a loose interpretation but I've used most of the elements.

My layout uses MME Kraft Funday papers and embellies. Those rather yummy word banner stamps are Echo Park by Unity Stamp Co - on this LO I inked them in two colours (brown and  black) to get that distressed look to them. I think kraft papers look fab inked in white too (I used a VersaMagic on this page). Thanks for popping in :).

Play along with the challenge here.

Upcycled!

Actually, I am not keen on that word. It's not a 'proper' word. But still, it does describe today's 'artwork'. I got this little drawer thingie from a charity shop for the bargain price of £1.20. It has been sat in my craft room for about a year but this prompt on Lessology (found via Lisa Saunders blog) reminded me that they were lurking, waiting for some love.

Before...
I've also had these BoBunny Gabrielle papers forever - they were a birthday gift. At the time I really wanted them, but I really don't have any photos for which they are suited (they are SO girly) so instead I used them to decorate my drawers.

And after! Ta da!
I can't leave without singing the praises of a product which made this little project a breeze - Claudine Hellmuth's Matte Medium. If you don't have any you must go out immediately, like now, and buy some. It is fabulous stuff and I cannot be without it. I used it both as glue and varnish on this little project. It's so totally matt the paper doesn't even look sealed. Basically - it rocks.

Briefly (as by now you may have gone to sleep), here's how I made it:
-Matte medium old sewing tissue onto drawer unit thingie
-Add white paint, then cream paint (thinned) over it to create a two-tone effect
-Inka Gold all the edges (another awesome product)
-Ink all edges with Coffee Archival
-Seal background with Matt Medium
-Stick papers with matte medium and when dry, seal with matte medium
-Stick on decorative bits! (The drawer knobs are Bo Bunny decorative brads with the legs removed and replaced with a stack of two buttons. I stuck stuff on with super strong, poisonous vile smelling jewellery glue so there is no way anything is falling off!

I need to get some bottles to fit the shelf now - temporarily I have some old Prima bottles that shall suffice.

Well done if you got to here LOL!

Later,
K xxx

I'm back!

Goodness me what a neglected little bloggie. I'll be honest. I got tired of it, it can be like a hungry mouth that wants feeding constantly... So a new phase of blogging begins - a pressure and hassle free kind of blogging. If I've got something to share, I'll share. If not, the thing might go unloved for months once again. In the words of the wonderful Doris Day - que sera sera.

So what brings me here today? Well I've started getting Quirky Kits and my first one landed last week. So I've been scrapping (for no other reason than fun, it's been a while since I did that...). And here's my page featuring some silly photos of my nearest and dearest. Liking this kit lots.
